Municipal Libraries
12 municipal libraries make different types of documents available to all audiences for information, leisure, education and cultural purposes; spaces for meetings, confrontation, reflection and citizen debate.
Missions of Municipal Libraries
- To make collections of different types of documents available to all audiences, for information, leisure, education and cultural purposes.
- Promote access to information; train the public in its use, in all its forms (print, digital, audiovisual).
- To provide a public space for meeting, confrontation and reflection (the library as a place for social life), and for citizen debate.
- Preserve and develop heritage funds. Contribute to the promotion and dissemination of heritage.
- Contribute to the promotion and dissemination of cultural creation.
- To allow cultural mediation in the direction of the arts, human and social sciences, science and technology, literature.
- Contribute to the development of reading and the fight against illiteracy.
- Implement strategies to reach out to new audiences.
- Supporting initial and continuing education and self-training.
Free of charge throughout the network
Since 1 July 2019, the subscription to the municipal library is free for all Grenoble residents and non-Grenoble residents, to borrow from the 12 libraries in the network and access 24/7 to the Grenoble-Alpes digital library.
