Medical consultations - general practitioner or specialist?

Which doctor should I see? When should I go to a specialist? Find out about how to make an appointment.

SEEING A GENERAL PRACTITIONER

You find a list of addresses for general practitioners in the national directory of the Assurance Maladie.

SEEING A SPECIALIST

Your registered physician will refer you to a specialist doctor if needed (surgeon, dermatologist, gastroenterologist, cardiologist, psychiatrist, etc.).

You will receive a higher reimbursement if you follow this coordinated healthcare circuit (parcours de soins coordonnés) than if you make an appointment directly with a specialist.

Some specialists can be consulted without referral from your registered physician, without your rate of reimbursement being reduced. This is notably the case for gynecologists, opticians and dentists.
